What is the University of California Educational Evaluation Center (UCEC)?
The University of California Educational Evaluation Center is a multi-campus research initiative that utilizes the system-wide expertise of nationally-recognized scholars to address educational problems through the rigorous evaluation of potential educational solutions. The Center is dedicated to harnessing the content and methodological expertise of the UC system to enhance the evaluation of educational programs and practices, leading to improved educational policy and practice.
What kinds of evaluations does the University of California Educational Evaluation Center (UCEC) conduct?
The UCEC focuses on evaluations of educational programs, policies, and practices at the local, state, and federal levels. The UCEC will conduct its own educational evaluations, as well as partner with other individuals and organizations within and outside the University of California. The UCEC will also serve as a resource for those who need support evaluating educational components of their own projects.
Which UC campuses are partners in the University of California Educational Evaluation Center (UCEC)?
Seven UC campuses are working together in this effort (UCLA, Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Merced, Santa Barbara, and San Diego). The Center is housed at UCLA. Key faculty—the UCEC Site Directors—at each of the seven campuses offer content and methodological expertise to successfully conduct national, state, and local educational evaluations. The academic disciplines of the collaborating investigators include research and evaluation methodology, survey design, economics, education, psychometrics, psychology, and sociology. In addition, the strategic locations of each of the partner campuses give the UCEC a presence in all the major regions of a bellwether state, maximizing the Center’s capacity to conduct both state and local evaluations that also have national significance.
